"Good Morning" rapid welcomes us with a dose of bracing whitewater, and the lively pace builds for several miles. Then we reach "Tunnel Chute," where the river thunders through a narrow and jagged granite chute, turns abruptly, and passes through a 90-foot cavernous tunnel blasted out of the mountain by 18th century miners.

Emerging from the turbulence of the chute, the river changes character and lazes through the scenic and peaceful canyon before launching into the final stretch of exhilarating class 3 and 4 rapids, including a mandatory portage around the spectacular class 6 "Ruck-a-Chucky Falls."

Lower Middle Fork Trip - 7 Miles - Class II

The Lower Middle Fork American River is a 7-Mile, Class II section of river, which runs approximately 3-Hour form put-in to take-out. This section is a continuation of the much more advanced upper section of the Middle Fork. Tucked away deep in the Tahoe National Forest’s remote wilderness this beautiful landscape is rich in gold rush history. This trip is ideal for groups that have kids that aren’t yet old enough for the South Forks’ wild Class-III rapids. This adventure would also be perfect for more timid rafters and some elderly folks. Due to dam released water the Lower Middle Fork is a great run all summer long.

(Minimum Age of 5 years old or 30lbs and over. Actual trip length may differ depending on water release)
