Whitewater Connection Guides from Around the World:

The Whitewater Connection River Guides will enhance your experience by sharing their passion for our rivers, and the ones they raft all over the world.
For many years, in addition to our great guides from here in the United States, our rafters have also enjoyed the international flavor and cultural experiences provided by our guides from different countries. You can learn from our guides about the local history of the Gold Rush Era as well as information about the food, cultural events, river trips and hikes available in the foreign guide's native countries. We know you will appreciate the experience and skill of all of our guides as well as sharing cultural customs with them.

Near and far, Zonker has journeyed to places such as Colorado, West Virginia, California, Costa Rica, and even New Zealand, all for one sole purpose, to raft some of the greatest rivers in the world. But when this die hard river guide isn’t on the water, he day dreams about playing professional ice hockey in the NHL. Lover of all forms of water, he even teaches snow boarding in the winter. Did I mention that he is also a certified chef and a fabulous cook? This chef is seasoned in more than just rafting!

JENHALL

Jen Hall: Born and raised in the great central valley of the fabulous state of California, Jen grew up with hobbies such as football and cheerleading. It wasn’t until she traveled up north to Chico State that she discovered her passion for the great outdoors. Fireworks and confetti glittered the world that day! Now the environmental science major enjoys spending her rare spare time guiding on the South Fork of the American River, backpacking and hanging out with her lovely family. In the fall, she will return to one of the greatest cities of California, Chico, but for now you can find her stylin on the river and working on those awkward tan lines!

NICOLE

Nicole Tunnell: Nicole grew up on the central coast of California where she spent most of her time at the beach. Before moving to Chico for college, she worked as an ocean lifeguard for a number of years. She soon graduated with a biology degree in 2006 and quickly took the opportunity to become a wine chemist. After a few years in a lab, she realized that she wanted to work in an outdoor setting again, bringing her to Coloma to work as a river guide. This season is hopefully the first of many to come, as you will find that the American River is very becoming of this adventurous soul.

Becky Lee has been in the Coloma area most of her life, giving her many unforgettable memories of the beautiful American River. Being a true water lover she’s happiest when she is at the beach or surfing. Beckys first love is softball whether she is playing or coaching. She just needs to find a field next to water! Our easygoing laid back Becky loves anything that gets her adrenaline pumpin, constantly changes her hair color to confuse our boss and has a secret desire to become a kick butt bounty hunter! Kurtis has traveled all over the western United States hunting, fishing and capturing its beauty on film.He is quite the photographer. He has yet to find anyplace as beautiful as here. Kurtis runs our commissary but when he can manage to escape you will most likely find him on the softball field.

Sam Tester comes to us all the way from Wolombi, Australia. Sam began rafting a number of years ago seeing it as a great opportunity to travel, Guiding such rivers as the Tully in Australia the Tongariro &Buller in New Zealand and the Carhungai in Honduras kept him pretty busy but always managed to squeeze in a little surfing and bike riding. Rafting soon became his passion and getting to do it for a living is even sweeter. Sam says he will give up his bad habits as soon as equally good ones become available.  ”The world is my oyster, I’m allergic to oysters but the world seems like a pretty awesome place!”

Spinney Gato” moved himself into WWC’s office and warehouse 2 years ago. Named after one of our former guides, Spinney spends his time sleeping around the office and mooching food from our guides. Occasionally he will go hunting but only if he has too. Spinney has defiantly brought a homey feel to our office.

Peter “Pops” Pierce

Pops comes to us all the way from Cairns, Australia. Despite lots of bits having been broken all the limbs are in the right place and still working. Pops says when he grows up he wants to be a “Grade A” raft guide. From the looks of him he’s in no great hurry. Until then he’s content to stomp on the daisies not push ‘em up! All joking aside a trip with pops is a trip worth taking.

Don “Big Daddy” Koolmees Or back in the day, ”Koolio”

Don makes his home in Paramount California where he enjoys life with his family and squeezing in the occasional golf game.  Amy Tipling... This  Kiwi flew all the way from Queenstown, New Zealand where's she's been guiding on some of New Zealand's most challenging rivers for the past 6 years.  She was born in the seaside town of New Plymouth and grew up surfing and swimming in the ocean.  It's safe to say she is drawn to water like a moth to a flame!  She has taken to the California lifestyle like a native, embracing the whitewater and the hot sunny days like they're going out of fashion! Amy's wit, humor, laughter and incedible skill on the river have made her one of the most requested guides this season.  On her days off she enjoys going kayaking and working on her and Laura's truck, and the occasional dance party.

 Laura Cashmore.

Born? Cambridge, New Zealand. Years rafting? 5 Favorite river? Whichever I'm on. Chocolate or vanilla? Hokey Pokey!  Highest waterfall you've guided? 21ft, Kaituna river in New Zealand. Running the Tunnel Chute on the Middle Fork, making friends with people in my raft, going kayaking after work, getting the truck to start!
